Action: Selkirk First Nation wanted to know if the health of the general population was being negatively affected by landslide activity, which appeared to be increasing due to climate change. The goal was to determine if landslides pose a risk to the people of Selkirk. Both Elders and scientists were surveyed to get a better understanding about the issues. A series of questions were posed to Elders for historical information about landslide activity in the Selkirk First Nation Traditional Territory and any resulting health effects from these landslides. Additionally, interviews were conducted with scientists familiar with landslides to get their opinions relating to the Selkirk First Nation Traditional Territory. Finally a survey of satellite imagery was used to document landslides on the major rivers in the study area that would update a 2006 study. Results: The project resulted in a collection of observations from Elders and the scientific community regarding landslides. The observations were used to produce a community newsletter on landslides and confirm the need to develop a community adaptation plan.
