Title: Improved Fresh and Healthy Food Access Utilizing Grow Tunnels

Project Summary: Kawacatoose First Nation identified the need for local and affordable quality fruits and vegetables. The objective of the project was to improve fresh vegetable access, improve health outcomes, promote self-reliance and create a positive environment through the nurturing and growing of food via grow tunnels. Two employees were hired to conduct succession planting and although there were many challenges involved water sources were secured so that employees did not have to rely on a water truck schedules. Successful events were held as a result of this project including: Treaty Day where over 200 people took part; and the Health Fair where  200 people attended and learned about how the youth were involved in the planting of the grow tunnel.  Fresh food from the grow tunnel was given out to community members and visitors who toured the tunnel. The interest from the youth was described as the greatest success of this project
