Title: Climate Change Adaptation Planning in Kahnawà:ke

Project Summary: The main objective of the Climate Change Adaptation Planning (CCAP) project was to develop a proactive CCAP with Kahnawake-specific recommendations on actions to become more resilient in the face of climate change. CCAP was developed in collaboration with local organizations, businesses, and individuals, with a focus on youth and elders. An emphasis on tree planting and reforestation offered health benefits to the community such as: cleaner air and pollution mitigation; shade and cooler temperatures to mitigate stress during heat waves; and emotional and spiritual well-being provided by being in natural spaces. The final plan included a summary of the climate change situation in Kahnawake and the region, specific strengths and challenges, and recommendations on how to better equip the community for the changes the that the community are experiencing. The CCAP project inspired community members to come together to work to mitigate the effects of climate change.
