Title: Support and Workshops for National Inuit Youth Summit

Action:This collaborative project focused on providing learning and skill-building opportunities to youth who attended the National Inuit Youth Summit in Iqaluit, Nunavut in August 2015. The goal of the project was to strengthen research capacity by training youth in research methods and exposing youth participants to research projects that are conducted across the Inuit regions of Canada.

Results: More than 70 participants attended the National Inuit Youth Summit and took part in portions of the workshop organized by Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre. Youth were engaged in culturally strengthening activities and developed leadership and capacity as message carriers for climate change and health challenges and solutions. The NIYS summit provided youth with opportunities to develop leadership and mentorship skills and linked youth with community members working in the area of research, climate change, and health, who can act as mentors and supports.
