Title: Improved Healthy Food Access Through a Grow Tunnel

Project Summary: The goal of the Improved Healthy Food Access through a Grow Tunnel Project was to improve knowledge and skills around the use of grow tunnels to grow food locally. Grow towers act as a living science lab and provide an ideal environment for teaching youth how to grow food locally. With the assistance of Elders and Knowledge Keepers youth learned how aeroponics (the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment rather than soil) increases yields by 30%, uses as little as 2% of the water and grows plants up to three times faster. More specifically youth and Elders had regular opportunities to be part of the planting, maintenance and harvest of the bounty from the grow tunnel. A nutrition display was set up to demonstrate the bounty provided from the grow tunnel.
